Kentucky Horse Park, 840 Timber Foot Rd
A must-see for every Lexington resident, this iconic park is dedicated to exploring the relationship between horses and humans. The grounds are home to museums, galleries, theaters, and working farm exhibits, as well as a campground, tennis, baseball, basketball, pickleball, and softball courts, and a pool.
Several parks across the city offer rentable outdoor shelters for birthday parties, reunions, and company outings. Rental fees range depending on the facility and amenities. See the individual shelter maps for details.
Dog park
If you’re looking for a place where your dog can run free and have some fun, Lexington is the perfect city. There are many parks and green spaces where you can take your pooch for a walk or let them unleash their boundless energy. These areas also offer a great opportunity to socialize with other dogs and their owners.
The dog park at Kirklevington is a 12-acre facility divided into two paddocks. It’s ideal for large and small dogs and features plenty of space to roam and play games of fetch. The park is fully fenced and equipped with water fountains and benches.
Other amenities include inclusive playground equipment, an outdoor pool, a skateboarding area, and a paved walking path. In addition to being a great place to visit with your pet, the dog park is also an excellent place for dog obedience and puppy socialization classes. The park is a hidden gem that’s not too crowded due to its remote location. Visit another area in town here.
Pickleball courts
A game called pickleball is taking the country by storm, and Lexington is no exception. This paddle sport is a combination of tennis, ping pong, and badminton, and it’s easy to learn and fun for players of all skill levels. It has no defining rules or official equipment, but it’s fast-paced and requires strategic play.
The dozen pickleball courts at Kirklevington Park are busy morning and evening during the summer. The city plans to add more pickleball courts and rehab existing tennis courts at several parks. The projects will cost nearly $3 million.
Players say the sport is easy to learn, and it doesn’t require a lot of expensive equipment. They tell us it’s a great way to meet people and stay active. You can find pickleball courts at the YMCA, parks and rec, and Bluegrass Racquet Club. It’s also a popular activity at the church gym.
